Trout Fishing

    

Highland Lodge provides fly fishers with an excellent array of fertile stillwaters, all providing wonderful sport for naturally grown-on trout. Four pound rainbow and brown trout are common captures, and 7 to 8 pounders are frequently landed. Double-figure fish (10 pounds plus) are also not uncommon, but be prepared to work hard to be rewarded for these brutes!

 

Wing Shooting

    

Highland lodge offers a variety of game bird shooting such as duck ,geese ,Guineafowl, pigeons and the much sort after Greywing Partridge one of the most challenging birds to shoot in South Africa. Owner Luke Bell has 25 years wingshooting experience and has trained and bred champion field trial pointers. James Bell joined the lodge two years ago ,he has years of experience having grown up shooting and fishing under Luke’s guidance. Both Luke and James are experienced professional hunters and will ensure a memorable wing shooting experience.

 

Clay Shooting

   

A clay range in the area offers clay shooting for both the Novice and experienced shot. They offer a standard 7 trap course and the challenging greywing simulation course. The Lodge offers lessons to the novice on a single trap before attempting the range.

 

Both the wingshooting and clay shooting has limited openings, booking is essential.

 

Historical Sites & Rock Art

  

Relive the tribulations of the Boer war in the Stormberg by visiting a skirmish site where the famous Boer General and later statesman Jan Smuts and 200 Boer horsemen narrowly escaped capture by sliding down the escarpment enabling them to break through to the Cape. The Stormberg is rich in rock art with a great variety of imagery. At Highlands you can explore some of these interesting sites.

 

Other

Enjoy a well- marked hike through the Stormberg with its panoramic and breathtaking views of the mountains, dams and roaming game. For the bird enthusiast there are a good variety of birds including the rare Rudd’s Lark.
